Deputy Director, Columbia University
Michael Krisch is the Deputy Director of the Brown Institute for Media Innovation, a bicoastal research institute at Columbia Journalism School and Stanford Engineering. At the institute, Krisch serves as an advisor to research and grants. He also is a lead instructor of Points Unknown, a GIS-based curriculum that is implemented through workshops at Columbia Journalism School and as an advanced spatial design course in the Graduate School of Architecture at Columbia University. In addition to teaching and advising, Krisch leads Mapping Local News, a research project in partnership with the Lenfest Institute and the Philadelphia Inquirer, aimed at building machine learning-based tools to help newsrooms analyze equity and representation in their work at scale.
