Joseph Seering is a Postdoctoral Scholar in Computer Science and an Affiliated Fellow at the Human-Centered AI Institute at Stanford University. His primary work focuses on understanding community self-governance in online spaces and developing tools to support online moderation of behaviors including harassment, spam, hate speech, and disinformation. He has performed qualitative and quantitative analyses of social and technical approaches to moderation on platforms including Facebook, Reddit, Twitch, and Discord. He has received awards for his papers at the ACM CHI, CSCW, and CHI PLAY conferences. His research has been funded by the K&L Gates Presidential Fellowship for Ethics and Computational Technologies and a Carnegie Mellon University Presidential Fellowship.
