The Brown Institute is excited to announce the launch of Maternal Figures on September 3 at 10AM ET. We invite you to join project leads Ashley Okwuosa and Chuma Asuzu as they introduce Maternal Figures, a database of maternal health interventions implemented in Nigeria over the last 30 years. The Maternal Figures database includes more than 500 source documents, such as reports, evaluations, research, and interviews relating to these interventions. Maternal Figures will serve as a resource for journalists looking to produce rigorous, solution-oriented reporting about maternal health in Nigeria.
As part of the data collection effort, researchers Okwuosa and Asuzu have partnered with journalists covering maternal health in Nigeria. From this partnership are stories documenting free maternal health programs in certain Nigeria states, how public-private partnerships can help Nigerian hospitals improve maternal health, and how amidst coronavirus fears, Nigeria’s pregnant women are turning to remote consultation and online groups.
Join us September 3, and join researchers Okwuosa and Asuzu as they unveil the database, discuss the current state of reporting on maternal health in Nigeria, and announce a new program to support maternal health journalists.
