Todd Whitney is a Senior Staff Associate and Impact Fellow at the Brown Institute and a media technologist. A radio producer by training, he uses narrative & computational approaches in his research and reporting. Todd’s recent research focuses on the surveillance techniques police deploy to monitor rappers and is supported by The Citizen Lab. When he’s not researching rap prosecutions he’s pursuing other projects involving equitable energy transition and networked sensors in the city. His radio and audio work stretch from reporting to sound engineering. Todd’s produced radio for NPR, hosted podcasts for Microsoft, and he teaches classes on longform narrative audio at NYU.
