As they open applications for their next year of fellows, our colleagues at the JSK Journalism Fellowship program at Stanford are launching a new approach to create deeper collaborations among fellows and test innovative ideas for addressing the biggest challenges facing journalism.
Calling it a “Teams and Themes” approach, JSK Fellowship Director Dawn Garcia said the program will seek to forge alliances between applicants who pursue questions that fall within one of five topic areas. These include: data journalism, algorithms and emerging technologies, free speech and democracy, audience engagement and diverse viewpoints, as well as news ecosystems and business models. The fellows will be exposed to the best of Stanford, with its focus on interdisciplinary research and collaboration, Garcia said.
JSK Fellows in the past have participated in the Brown Institute’s Base Camp and provided valuable feedback for Magic Grant projects. To learn more about this new approach to the Fellowship program, read Garcia’s latest post on Medium.
